There was a Charizard-sized turnout to celebrate Slab Center’s recent grand opening. Most people are familiar with Pikachu, the yellow catlike critter with a lightning bolt for a tail, but for those not in the know, Charizard is a large dragon-like beast, one of hundreds of different usual-looking creatures trained for battle in the popular Pokémon franchise. The long- card game has produced cartoons, movies, video games, comic books, toys and more. Some cards are rarer than others and can command high prices from collectors. For Pokémon fans young and old, Slab Center is the new hometown location to 'catch 'em all'. It was a beautiful day, perfect for hotdogs, Pokémon and fellowship. Over 70 people showed up to welcome the newest member of the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce to its 124 Highway Avenue location in Blackshear.
