City man wounded in Aug. 10 shooting

Waycross Police Department detectives are continuing to investigate an aggravated assault last week that resulted in a city man suffering a gunshot wound, Assistant Chief and Major Danny Hampton said Monday.

Lonzie Young, 19, was wounded in the incident, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m., Monday, August 10 in the area of the 1100 block of Thomas Street.

Young was taken to Memorial Satilla Health for emergency treatment. He later was life-flighted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., for additional treatment, Hampton said. No further details on Young’s condition was available at press time August 17.

WPD Officers responded around 9 p.m., to a call of shots being fired in the Thomas Street area. Shortly after reaching the scene, they were sent to MSH for a man with a gunshot wound, who was identified as Young.
