Desirae Rouse is the first recipient of Memorial Satilla Health’s Flower Bud Award recognizing nursing students. The award will be presented quarterly to those who demonstrate compassion, empathy and professionalism that define the nursing profession and a dedication to excellence in their educational journey. Recipients are nominated by hospital colleagues who’ve seen the qualities reflected in the student’s work and interactions with care teams and patients. Rouse, a student at South Georgia State College, was selected for a commitment to learning in the clinical setting and compassionate approach to patient care. “Desirae represents the promise of the next generation of nurses,” Chief Nursing Officer Jen Weaver said. “Her compassion, professionalism and eagerness to learn have made a meaningful impression on our colleagues, patients and families. The honor was created to recognize nursing students who bring heart, curiosity and dedication to their clinical experience, and Desirae is a wonderful example.” Rouse is both a nurse extern and student completing clinical rotations. The hospital cites its exceptional nurses with the quarterly DAISY Award and non-nursing staff with the quarterly Sunflower Award.
