BLACKSHEAR — Mrs. Nola Mae Drawdy Carter, age 83, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday evening, August 9, 2026 at Kindred Hospital North Florida in Green Cove Springs, Fla., following an extended illness.
Born April 29, 1943, in Blackshear, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Burris Daniel Drawdy and Nola Lee Drawdy Lee. Living most of her life in Pierce County, she was a 1961 graduate of Blackshear High School.
Mrs. Carter obtained a Computer Tech degree from Ware Tech and was a longtime bookkeeper. She had worked for Alvin Ward CPA in Blackshear, as a self-employed homebased bookkeeper for area businesses, and as a bookkeeper for Ware and Pierce County Commissions and the city of Blackshear.
Mrs. Carter was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, joining in 1970, and helped her husband for many years as the overseers of the church cemetery.
She was a faithful volunteer for Hospice Satilla in Waycross.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Anthony Carter; stepfather, Earl Lee, a sister, Virginia Robinson; and 3 brothers, Joe Allen Drawdy, Edward Drawdy, and Ronald Austin Drawdy.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Roger Carter of Blackshear; two sons, “Warren” Roger Carter, Jr. of Clayton, Ga., and Matthew “Matt” Mannen Carter (wife Lisa) of Blackshear; four grandchildren, Brandon Tyler Carter (wife Elizabeth) of Bastrop, Texas, Manuel Sotomayor (wife Lorrany) of Seoul, Korea, Benjamin Isaac Carter of Clayton, Ga., and Meagan Hullander (husband Seth) of Cartersville, Ga.; two great grandchildren, Isabelle Carter and Wyatt Carter; four sisters, Joann Lee (husband Jimmy) of Hoboken, Ellie Loudermilk of Perry, Glenda Lee (husband Larry) of Blackshear, and Linda Hayden (husband Lee) of Griffin; two brothers, Elder Daniel Drawdy (wife Gloria) and Joseph “Joe” Drawdy (wife Karen), both of Blackshear; step-sisters, Martha Hall (husband James) and Lydia Wainright, both of Nahunta, two step-brothers, John Lee, Jr. and Travis Lee, both of Waynesville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Francine Bennett of Millwood, Myra Tucker of Savannah, Wanda Davis (husband Ken) of Hoboken, Lawanna Cook (husband Eddie) of Brunswick, and DeLoyce “Opal” Underwood (husband Russ) of Brunswick; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
