HORTENSE — iFloat Ministries, a faith-based non-profit organization based near Jesup, continues to help families in need in Brantley County.
Led by Shelby R. Wilson, iFloat Ministries actively aids local families affected by the Highway 82 wildfire by providing housing, furniture, appliances.
The mission is rebuilding and placing donated mobile homes, organizing repairs and supplying home necessities for fire victims. iFloat Ministries also collects and distributes free clothes, blankets, furniture and working appliances.
The organization recently received six donated mobile homes for Brantley County with four needing repairs before displaced families can move in.
“We have a total of 20 people on our list that are vulnerable families,” said Mrs. Wilson. “It means they are elderly, disabled, have special needs children or have multiple children in one house.”
A team from Laurens County Baptist Association in Dublin, Ga., worked on one of the four needing remodeling last week on Gatewood Drive in Hortense.
The single-wide mobile home needed the bathroom floor repaired along with replacing the vanity and tub. The kitchen floor also needed repairing before the installation of LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) flooring and painting throughout.
A double-wide was moved onto site along Gatewood drive. According to Mrs. Wilson, it needs a bathroom remodeled to be wheelchair accessible, the removal of an existing tub/shower combo and installing of a walk-in shower, installation of a new vanity and toilet, and doors widened to a bedroom and bathroom.
Additionally, it needs a new metal roof, a vanity and toilet installed in a second bathroom, cabinets and appliances installed in the kitchen, fixing a soft spot in the laundry room floor, a front door install, replace a broken window, paint throughout and installing LVP snap flooring throughout.
A double-wide on Browntown road needs a new metal roof, floor repairs in the laundry room and kitchen, cabinets and appliances installed in the kitchen and five windows replaced.
It also needs sheetrock repaired underneath a couple of windows, a sheetrock wall between bedroom and kitchen, a framed sheetrock wall between mastered room and living room, a closet built in one bedroom (formerly used as a den), repair of the floor at front door, repair T1-11 siding in a few places, paint throughout the home, and LVP flooring throughout.
A single-wide on Gallberry Road needs floor repairs in the living room, sheetrock in the living room and painting throughout.
