Pierce County School Board projects its millage rate will decrease slightly this year.
The school board proposes setting its millage rate at 12.953 mills for this year.
The rate would be a cut of 0.998 mills from last year’s rate of 13.951 mills. It is the second largest decrease in the millage in the past 20 years, following a 1.894 mill decline in 2022.
The board approved advertising its five year history. The millage rate will officially be set at the school board’s regular meeting in September. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. The meeting is being delayed a day due to the Labor Day holiday.
Since the board doesn’t project a tax increase, no public hearings are required.
Finance director Melanie Helms said even though the millage rate decreased, it will generate about the same amount of money as the current rate. She explained the county’s recent reassessment accounts for the increase in the county’s total digest.
The school board approved a $44.47 million budget for 2027 in June.
