Nola Mae Carter, former bookkeeper for the City of Blackshear and Pierce County Commission, passed away August 9. She was 83.
Carter worked as a bookkeeper for years with a home based business, but also worked for the City of Blackshear and the Pierce and Ware County Commissions.
She and her husband, Roger, were long-time members of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church and were caretakers of the cemetery there.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, from the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.
Nola Mae Drawdy Carter, 83, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday evening, August 9, 2026, at Kindred Hospital North Florida in Green Cove Springs, Florida, following an extended illness.
Born April 29, 1943, in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Burris Daniel Drawdy and Nola Lee Drawdy Lee. Living most of her life in Pierce County, she was a 1961 graduate of Blackshear High School. She had obtained a computer tech degree from Ware Tech and was a long-time bookkeeper. She had worked for Alvin Ward CPA in Blackshear, as a self-employed home-based bookkeeper for area businesses and as a bookkeeper for Ware and Pierce County Commissions and the City of Blackshear.
She was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, joining in 1970, and helped her husband for many years as the overseers of the church cemetery.
She was a faithful volunteer for Hospice Satilla in Waycross.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Anthony Carter; step-father, Earl Lee; a sister, Virginia Robinson and three brothers, Joe Allen Drawdy, Edward Drawdy and Ronald Austin Drawdy.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Roger Carter, Blackshear; two sons, “Warren” Roger Carter Jr., Clayton and Matthew “Matt” Mannen Carter (wife Lisa), Blackshear; four grandchildren, Brandon Tyler Carter (wife Elizabeth), Bastrop, TX, Manuel Sotomayor (wife Lorrany), Seoul, Korea, Benjamin Isaac Carter, Clayton and Meagan Hullander (husband Seth), Cartersville; two greatgrandchildren, Isabelle Carter and Wyatt Carter; four sisters, Joann Lee (husband Jimmy), Hoboken, Ellie Loudermilk, Perry, Glenda Lee (husband Larry), Blackshear and Linda Hayden (husband Lee), Griffin; two brothers, Elder Daniel Drawdy (wife Gloria) and Joseph “Joe” Drawdy (wife Karen), both of Blackshear; step-sisters, Martha Hall (husband James) and Lydia Wainright, both of Nahunta; two stepbrothers, John Lee Jr. and Travis Lee, both of Waynesville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Francine Bennett, Millwood, Myra Tucker, Savannah, Wanda Davis (husband Ken), Hoboken, Lawanna Cook (husband Eddie), Brunswick, and DeLoyce “Opal” Underwood (husband Russ), Brunswick and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, from the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Lee and Elder Daniel Drawdy officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Matthew Lee, Benjamin Crews, Mark Wingate, Orrin Lee, Jesse Crews and Kade Rowell.
Congregational hymns included “ I want a heart to pray...”, “The day is past and gone...”, “Hark from the tombs a doleful sound...” and “Passing
Away”.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
