Substitutes in the Pierce County School System will be getting a pay raise effective immediately.
The Pierce County Board of Education approved the raises during their monthly work session last Thursday morning.
School Superintendent Dara Bennett said ESS has reported having trouble finding substitutes for various jobs in the school system due to Pierce Co. paying less than neighboring school systems. ESS is the contractor the system uses to secure substitutes.
Bennett said the goal is to be more competitive to hire the best substitutes for local students.
Under the pay raises, day to day pay for substitutes with a high school diploma will increase from $65 to $72 per day. Substitutes who are certified teachers will go from $80 per day to $125 per day.
Long term subs (20 days or more) with a bachelor’s degree, but without a valid Georgia teaching certificate will increase form $86.50 per day to $90 per day. Long term subs with a valid teaching certificate will increase from $108 per day to $180 per day.
Substitute paraprofessional and school secretary pay will increase from $7.90 per hour per day to $9 per hour per day.
Substitute custodial employees will receive a raise from $8 per hour per day to $9 per hour per day.
