ST. MARYS — Willie Lawton Bennett Jr., 85, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Born November 18, 1940, in Stockton, Ga., he was the son of the late Willie Lawton Bennett Sr. and Pearl Williams Bennett. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Madge King Bennett.
A proud resident of Camden County since 1962, Bennett retired after a long career with Gilman Paper Company, and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his children, Petresa Lynn Bennett of Blackshear, Sherry Zimerle (Steve) of St. Marys, Dusty Bennett of St. Marys, and Brandi Bennett of Woodbine, Ga.; grandchildren, Kayla Lewis, Neal Carr, Dustin McCoy, Blake Manning, Nicholas McCoy, Brae Carter, and Holden Simpson; great granddaughters, Kenlie Lewis and Kaylee Callaway; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held August 7 at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Jarrett Johns officiating. The

graveside service was a private family gathering at Waters Cemetery in Blackshear.
Pallbearers included Neal Carr, Dustin McCoy, Blake Manning, Nicholas McCoy, Alex Addy, and John Brazell.
Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys handled the arrangements.
