BLACKSHEAR — Mr. Larry “Gabby” Hayes, 76, of Blackshear, died Monday afternoon, August 3, 2026, at his residence after a brief illness.
He was born in Alma to the late Edward Hayes and Bonnie Fales Hayes. Hayes had made Blackshear his home for most of his life. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Waycross and was a member of Woodard Chapel Church. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Corine Thomas, Florene Hayes, Lorene Clemons, and Linda Strickland; and two brothers, Edward N. Hayes and Jerry Hayes.
He is survived by his son, Larry D. Hayes and his wife, Lisa, of Waycross; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Johnny Edward Hayes of Hazlehurst, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held August 8 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
