Tiger Field project: There was no report on the Tiger Field project, but commissioners awarded the bid for the project at their meeting later that same day. (See related story.)
New recreation complex: There was no update on the new recreation complex.
Director’s report: Recreation Director Maureen Brown updated members on the upcoming fall sports season. Recreation Assistant Derrail Moore gave an update on registration numbers so far. A total of 85 have registered for football, 78 for soccer, 46 for volleyball, 10 each for future bears and girls flag football and three for cheerleading. The deadline was this past Friday. Brown also noted evaluations, sizing and drafts are planned for the various sports. She gave dates and times for those. The season is tentatively scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 8. The director also reported on various summer camps including football and basketball. She announced bingo for senior citizens was planned for this past Monday. Brown recognized district and state golf winners including Lucille Schmitz, Audrey Craft, Miller Schmitz and Jud Foreman. Luke Russell also qualified, but was unable to attend state competition.
Next meeting: The next monthly meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (SEGARAC) on College Avenue.
