The Nahunta City Council unanimously passed two ordinances governing Zoning Code Setbacks and Travel Trailer Length of Stays during its August monthly meeting.
Ordinance No. 26.07.001 governing Zoning Code Setback passed after its second reading. Councilmember Crystal Johns made the motion to approve the ordinance. Councilman Bruce Davis gave the second. It passed by a 4-0 vote.
The second ordinance, No. 26.07.002 governing Trailer Length of Stays also passed after its second reading. City Clerk Angie Wirth informed the council of the changes they requested were in the ordinance. Councilman Andrew Altman the motion for the approval with Councilwoman Johns seconding the motion. It also passed 4-0.
The council opened and voted on RFP’s (Request for Proposal) for fencing at the new sewer plant. City Manager presented the council with the sealed bids.
When the three bids were read aloud, T & T Fencing had the lowest bid of $70,300. South Georgia Fencing’s bid was for $74,258. Stanley Pitts had a bid of $85,290.
Councilman Altman made the motion to go with T & T Fencing with Councilwoman Johns seconding the motion. The motion passed 4-0.
The City Council discussed and went with Edmunds Building Permit Module their building permit add-on. City Clerk Angie Wirth stated City Hall has to track building permits and they have to be sent to the state at the end of the year. The council voted to stay with Edmunds as they are already using them.
Councilman Altman made the motion to approve the building perit module add-on with Councilman Davis seconding the motion. It carried 4-0.
This also comes with the code enforcement module offered online and it is ADA compatible.
The City Council voted on employee pay raises and paid health insurance.
The council voted to give a five percent pay raise to the Police Department and the 100% city-paid health insurance to both Public Works and administration.
Police Chief Todd gave the monthly report for the month of July 2026.
There were 658 E911 calls; 302 traffic stops; 98 citation issued; 204 warnings issued, eight incident reports filed; three accident reports filed; and five arrests made.
The chief also stated the Council had voted for the long guns at last month’s meeting through the Law Enforcement Management System. He asked for that to be changed to Ed’s Public Safety.
The reason being is because LEMS (Law Enforcement Mangement Safety) could not meet the required quote and Ed’s was much more financially sufficient.
Jeremy Ryan was unable to give the Public Works report for the month due to training issues with computers.
Ryan further stated his men have been cutting grass at both Burton Street and Cannon Street for the elementary school students to have a safe place to walk.
He also reported a sewer main break occurred last Thursday night (July 30) at 301 North. Ryan stated his men were able to clean up the break.
The next Nahunta City Council meeting will be Monday, September 7 at 6 p.m.
