NAHUNTA — Brantley County commissioners approved the sale of Satilla Plantation to Skipper’s Bluff, LLC during their regular meeting Thursday.
County Manager Joey Cason explained to commissioners the Development Authority could not accept the conveyance of the property, which the commission agreed up in July.
“After that vote, the Development Authority realized it is only able to sell industrial property, so therefore they decline the acceptance of the conveyance,” said Cason. “Therefore, the land is still owned by the Board of Commissioners. In January of this year, you, the Board of Commissioners, voted to affirm the selection of Skipper’s Bluff as they were selected by the Development Authority as the sole bidder.
“This action will allow the county to finally get the land out of county ownership and back on the tax digest. Skipper’s Bluff will pay the Board of Commissioners 250,000 and provide a $5 million performance bond to ensure the property is properly developed.”
Cason added road ownership in Satilla Plantation will revert to becoming property of Skipper’s Bluff.
“Therefore, I’m recommending a motion to finalize the sale of the Satilla Plantation property owned by the Brantley County Board of the Commissioners to Skipper’s Bluff so that it will finally be out of our hands and on the tax digest.”
Commissioner Davison made the motion with Commissioner Riggins giving the second. The motion passed unanimously.
