HOBOKEN – Margaret Agnes Dickerson Stevens, 90 of Hoboken, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 6, 2026 at Bayview Nursing Home after an extended

illness.

Born in Hoboken, her parents were Luther Emory Dickerson and Nancy Mayleen Herrin Dickerson. Mrs. Stevens is also preceded in death by her husband, James Levy “J.L.” Stevens; a son-inlaw, Danny Anderson; and three brothers, Charles Dickerson, Ladon Dickerson (Betty) and Jerry Dickerson.

Mrs. Stevens graduated from Hoboken High School in 1954 and in December of 1954 married J.L. Stevens. They were married 68 years when he passed September 25, 2022.

After getting married, they moved to Atlanta for a few months, then moved to New Mexico until 1956 when J.L. was honorably discharged from the military. They then moved to Brunswick for a while, then back to Hoboken where they spent the rest of their lives together.

Mrs. Stevens was a secretary for Hoboken Elementary School from 1967-1990. She was a member of Hoboken Baptist Church. Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School class and served on the church’s social committee for serval years.

She was a faithful church member and loved the Lord. Mrs. Stevens was a very dedicated wife, mother, and nana and had a really big family whom she loved and adored. She was called “nana” from the very first grandchild and was called “nana” by a lot of other young adults and youth.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Stevens (Cheryl) of Hoboken; two daughters, Linda Stevens Chesser and Donna Stevens Anderson, both of Hoboken; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Steven Chesser (Marcia), Ryan Chesser (Carla), Heath Briscoe (Jessica), Josh Briscoe (Stefanie), Katie Hayes (Tyler), Kelley Lawrence (Sarah), Kami Roberts (Chris), and Jill Collins (Taylor); 19 great grandchildren and one on the way; a sisterin- law, Anita Dickerson; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, August 8, 2026 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Roberts and Rev. Tyler Hayes officiating.

Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steven Chesser, Ryan Chesser, Heath Briscoe, Kelley Lawrence, Josh Briscoe, Taylor Collins, Cole Chesser, Seth Chesser, Garrison Chesser, Joshua Roberts and Kellen Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers were the rest of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Stevens requested no flowers. In lieu of flowers, she would like to help people in need, so please donate to a charity.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
