Davis blast pair of solo homers against Lady Pirates, Lady Gators
Brantley County’s softball Lady Herons escaped in extra innings in the season opener at home and rolled to a road win in the first week of the 2026 season.
BCHS (2-0) slipped past visiting Brunswick 4-3 in nine innings August 4 scoring the winning run on a bases loaded wild pitch.
The Lady Herons had a much easier time Thursday, August 6 at Ware County posting a 10-2 victory in a five-inning, “mercy rule” contest.
Brantley County its next four games at home starting Thursday, August 13 with a jayvee/varsity twinbill against Camden County with game times at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Ware County closes out the season series with a Monday, August 17 visit in a jayvee/varsity doubleheader at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Bacon County rolls into town Thursday, August 20 for a 6 p.m. varsity matchup. BCHS opens Region 3-AAA play Tuesday, August 25 hosting Pierce County at 6 p.m. The Lady Herons travel Thursday, August 27 to Bearville.

CANEY BAY — Lydia Anderson raced home from third base to score the winning run on a wild pitch with no outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Anderson (2-for-4) opened the inning drawing a walk. She stole second, her fourth theft of the night, and moved over to third on an error. Rilee Story (2for-5) followed with an infield hit putting runners on the corners.
After an intentional walk to Sydnee Davis (1-for-3) loaded the bases, Anderson scored two pitches later.
The Lady Pirates grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in their seasonopening at bat. A one-out single and consecutive walks loaded the bases. A two-out error allowed the lead runner to score.
Held scoreless for four innings, Brantley County broke through for three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Kynli Flowers (1-for-4) set up the home fifth with a one-out double.
Story followed the second out with a run-scoring double off an 0-1 offering tying the game at 1apiece. Davis drove an 0-2 pitch over the fence in center giving the Lady Herons a 3-1 advantage.
Brunswick caught two-out lightning in the top of the seventh scoring twice to tie the game at 3-all eventually forcing extra innings.
A leadoff walk and a two-out walk to keep the inning alive were followed by consecutive run-scoring singles.
The Lady Herons left two on in the bottom of the inning getting a leadoff single from Flowers and a two-out intentional walk to Davis.
After the Lady Pirates stranded runners at second and third in the top of the eighth, BCHS opened the bottom of the inning with consecutive single by Madison Walker (1-for-4) and Addisyn Grafford (2-for-3) only to be turned away.
Edie Lowther (8.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 9 K, 3 BB, 2 WP) retired Brunswick in order in the top of the ninth.

WAYCROSS — Brantley County used a six-run second inning to open a 7-0 lead en route to knocking the Lady Gators.
Anderson (3-for-4) dropped down a bunt single to open the game. She stole second and third (four total steals) and scored on Story’s (1-for-3) groundout.
The Lady Herons sent 10 batters to the plate in the second in scoring their six runs. Walker (1for-2) legged out an infield hit and was lifted for courtesy runner Halli Knox. After Knox stole second, she moved to third on Lowther’s ground out.
Four consecutive singles followed plating the first three runs. Kynslea Garrison (1-for-3) singled home Knox. Consecutive singles by Flowers (2-for-3) and Anderson loaded the bases.
Story’s ensuing two-run single upped the lead to 4-0. A two-out, run-scoring single by Caiden Jones kept the inning alive. A two-run error followed on a ball hit by Grafford pushing the lead to 7-0.
Ware County cut the deficit to 7-2 with a two-run third inning against Mary Hall (5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP). The Lady Gators scored on a bases loaded wild pitch and a groundout.
The Lady Herons tacked on two runs in the fourth. Anderson lined a leadoff single, stole second and third, and scored on Story’s groundout. Davis (1-for-3) followed with her second homer of the season launching a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left for a 9-2 advantage.
Brantley County tacked on a final run in the top of the fifth. Walker worked a leadoff walk and was lifted for Knox as a courtesy runner. Knox stole second and eventual scored on a Flowers’ two-out single for the eight-run advantage.
