James ‘Jimmy’ Edwin Thomas

NAHUNTA — James “Jimmy” Edwin Thomas, 82 of Nahunta, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026 at his residence after an extended illness.

Thomas was born in Folkston to the late Alfred “Junior” and Charlotte Rushing Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Dot Hickox Thomas; and two brothers, Benny and Paul Thomas.

Thomas was blessed with the gift of helping others, whether it was gathering a crew to rebuild a neighbor’s burned barn or delivering one’s calf or treating one’s sick animal or assisting someone on the highway with vehicle trouble. He had a servant’s heart.

Thomas was employed a Gilman Paper Company in the Multiwall Division before settling in Hickox. He operated a poultry business for 30 years and developed a cattle farm of registered Angus cattle. Thomas was an avid hunter and fisherman and was known in the community for his hunting dogs.

He was a member of Hickox Baptist Church. Thomas served on the Brantley County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and was an active member of the Cattlemen Association where he received the Cattleman Lifetime Achievement Award. Most of all, he loved his family and community. Thomas was a people person in every sense of the word.

Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years, Lorna Harden Thomas; two sons, Dr. Derryl Thomas and Chris Thomas; a daughter, Kim (Tim) Thrams; seven grandchildren, Austin (Angel) Highsmith, Dalton (Tera) Thrams, Kayde (Dawson) Covington, Ryan Thomas, Kyle (Jayden) Thomas, Seth Thomas and Ethan Thomas; two great grandchildren, Satilla and Savannah Highsmith; two brothers, Terry (Charlene) Thomas and Keith (Zada) Thomas; two brothers-inlaw, Clifford (Kathy) Harden and Cleve (Miriam) Harden; three sisters-in-law, Linda (Steve) Roberson, Ruby Thomas and Bonnie Thomas; special cousin, Larry (Deidra) Thomas; step-sister, Ann (Johnny) Jones; step-brother, Ronnie (Rita) Hickox; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held today (Wednesday, August 12, 2026) at 2 p.m., at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Hendrix and Donald Morrison officiating.

Pallbearers include Austin Highsmith, Dalton Thrams, Ryan Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Seth Thomas and Ethan Thomas.

Honorary Pallbearers include Tim Thomas, Tracy Thomas, Charles Thomas, Danny Thomas, Frank Thomas, Bradley Thomas and Robert Thomas.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
