Mobley
UNDATED — Marvin “Buddy” Tillman Mobley Sr., husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died peacefully Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by family. He was 95.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years and the love of his life, Joann “JoJo” Sports Mobley; his parents; sibl ings Cadwin Osteen (Bobby), Elnora Lott (Elias), and Mark Mobley; and his son-in-law, Lannis Moody.
He is survived by his children Angie Moody and Bubba Mobley (Cathy); his grandchildren Sydne Smith (Malcolm), Jake Mobley (Britney), Cassidy Carter (Lee), Mike Mobley (Mary), Kager Moody (Heidi), and Gabe Mobley (Savanna); his great grandchildren Allie Mobley, Ellie Smith, Davis Mobley, Ann Carter, Connor Smith, Beau Mobley, Jud Mobley, Catherine Mobley, Malcolm Smith III, Barrett Carter, and Charlotte Mobley; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mobley was born January 11, 1931 to Leonard Monroe Mobley and Hortense Wilcox Mobley in West Green, Ga. He graduated from Coffee County High School and entered the U.S. Navy where he received electrical training which would continue to serve him throughout his life.
He loyally spent his working career with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph for more than 30 years until retirement. Not only did Southern Bell provide a living, but it is where Mobley met the love of his life who quickly became his main priority.
During his early years, Mobley loved spending time out on the water with his wife and children. They often vacationed at Fernandina, camping in the dunes on the beach and annually went to Clarks Hill Lake in the summer where they made many memories camping, fishing, and waterskiing.
He was a member of the “Telephone Pioneers,” the Keenager Choir, and Trinity Methodist Church. Mobley loved camping, fishing, being out on the boat, and supporting his grandchildren at their various events. Later in life, Mobley transitioned to saltwater fishing at Crooked River where he and JoJo fished together for many years. There’s no question that he was a great fisherman, but JoJo sure knew how to reel them in, and could compete with the best of them.
Mobley wasn’t hesitant to let you know the achievement of his life was his family. Along with his soulmate, JoJo, he was incredibly proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who affectionately knew him as “Papa.” As some people say, the best part about having children is grandchildren. Mobley was certainly blessed in this department, and he loved them all unconditionally.
Whenever he was with family, it was evident in his face that is where he was the happiest. His grandchildren can tell how much they loved going to visit JoJo and Papa over the years. Not only did they always have the best snacks, the newest games, and JoJo’s cooking, but Papa also educated his grandchildren on many life lessons out in his shop.
A gentle giant with one of the kindest hearts, Papa will be missed by all.
A funeral service was held August 1 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jake Mobley, Mike Mobley, Kager Moody, Gabe Mobley, Malcolm Smith, and Lee Carter.
