Retired educator, local author Beth Clark dies

Beth Clark, retired educator and local children’s book author, passed away Friday, July 24, at her home. She was 94.

Clark taught business education for 35 years and when she was in her 80s fulfilled a dream of writing children’s books.

She authored four books about Toby the Gopher Turtle, as well as George’s Big Red Fish and George’s Big Surprise, which were inspired by her great-grandson. She took immense delight in sharing these books and stories with children at the Blackshear library and at other local events.

She was very active at Blackshear First United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

She traveled to 35 countries, various islands, took numerous cruises and visited every U.S. state.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 1, from the Blackshear First United Methodist Church.
