Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Brumfield Clark, 94, of Blackshear, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at her home.
She met the love of her life, Percy, while att ending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. They shared a beautiful legacy of 59 wonderful years of marriage. A dedicated educator, she was a high school business teacher for over 35 years, truly remaining a teacher for life.
She found great joy in reading and gardening, and she and Percy loved spending time with family and friends, golfing and relaxing by their pool and at their condo at Fernandina Beach. Together, they shared a profound passion for travel. She traveled to 35 countries, various islands, took numerous cruises and visited every U.S. state.
As a beloved member of the First United Methodist Church in Blackshear, she deeply enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday School and helping with Vacation Bible School. In her 80s, she fulfilled a newfound dream of writing children’s books. She authored four books about Toby the Gopher Turtle, as well as George’s Big Red Fish and George’s Big Surprise, which were inspired by her greatgrandson. She took immense delight in sharing these books and stories with children at the Blackshear library and at other local events.
She was a daughter of the late Caleb Hilton and Doris Johns Brumfield.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Percy Norman Clark; a son, George Hilton Clark and her sister, Barbara Jean Ryckman.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Vernon Gullett, Granbury, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Shannon Clark, Charlotte, NC; daughter-inlaw, Ann Clark, Senoia; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Keith) Hughes, Ashley (Jonathan) Wilson, Press Clark, Payton Clark and Pace Clark; three great-grandchildren, LizAnn Hughes, George Wilson and Clessie Wilson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 1, from the Blackshear First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Josh McLemore and the Rev. Keith Hughes officiating. Her granddaughter, Elizabeth Hughes, gave the eulogy.
A private interment was held at the Bristol Cemetery.
