
Mary Frances Tuten Wood, 92, of Blackshear, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear April 10, 1934, she lived in Pierce County all her life. she was a 1952 graduate of Blackshear High School. She would go on to work as the assistant Clerk for the City of Blackshear and later as the Clerk after the retirement of Fred Hobbs. She obtained her real estate license and worked as a real estate agent with Jean Dixon Realty for several years until her retirement. She loved to read, cook and sew in her free time. Her greatest love was for her family. She and her many siblings maintained a very close relationship all throughout their lives. She would carry this love and devotion for family on to her own family with them all agreeing that she was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a longtime member of the Blackshear First United Methodist Church where she had been very active over the years as a member of the Chancel Choir, the WMU and numerous other groups and activities.
She was a daughter of the late Christopher Columbus and Addie James Tuten. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson “Jimmy” Wood III; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Delana Wood; four sisters, Eva Kate Dixon, Latrelle Moore, Doris Stuckey and Waunell Jordan and all three of her brothers, Randall Tuten, Chris Tuten and Gene Tuten.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Rob Dobbins, Woodbine; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jean Wood, Waycross; a sister, Gerry Tuten Moody, St. Simons Island; four grandchildren, James Wood, Ashlee (Jared) Lott, Stefan (Keshia) Wood and Hilla Brucker; six great-grandchildren, Bryson Lott, Brantley Lott, Reese Wood, Rayna Wood, Zoey Wood and Allie Wood and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, August 8, at Blackshear First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 8, from the Blackshear First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Josh McLemore and the Rev. Eugene Barlow officiating.
The family will also be honoring Mrs. Wood’s late husband, Jimmy, during this time, too, since he passed during the COVID pandemic March 16, 2020.
A private interment will be held at the Blackshear Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be James Wood, Stefan Wood, Bryson Lott, Johnny Milton, Joel Williams, Mark Bowen and Henry Russell.
