
Joseph Darwin Brown, 90, passed away peacefully Friday, July 17, 2026.
Born in Blackshear, he was the son of Obed Kermit Brown and Emma Minola Strickland Brown. He was a man of strong faith, unwavering integrity and quiet strength. Throughout his life, he was devoted to his family, his country and the values he held dear.
He proudly served in the United States Navy, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to service and honor.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Stroupe Brown, Jun 10, 1959. Together, they shared 67 years of marriage, building a home filled with love, faith, laughter and cherished memories.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal brother and faithful friend. His kindness, wisdom and gentle spirit touched countless lives and his legacy will continue through the family he loved so deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Obed Kermit Brown and Emma Minola Strickland Brown and his siblings, Sue Ann Brown Kassner, Sylvia Jean Brown Luke, Glynn Brown, Robert Daylon Brown and Betty Brown Pierce.
He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 67 years, Patricia Stroupe Brown; his daughter, Janett Brown and his son, Michael Brown. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sarah, Shannon and her son, Daylon, Allan Brown and his son, Jack, and Sydney and her children, Chayton and Aria.
He is further survived by his siblings, Glenda Woodruff and Dewayne Brown, as well as his faithful little companion, Bella.
His greatest joy in life was his family. He treasured every moment spent with them and leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, compassion and unwavering devotion that will be cherished for generations to come.
Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, from the funeral home chapel.
A committal ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Blackshear City Cemetery, East Park Street, Blackshear.
