Local firefighter Johnnie Anderson was honored for 50 years of dedicated service to the Blackshear Fire Department. The recognition came during a special ceremony at the Blackshear City Council’s July 14 regular monthly meeting. Anderson will be retiring from active service September 30. Mayor Keith Brooks read an official proclamation of gratitude to a standing room only crowd of family, friends, coworkers and wellwishers. Blackshear Fire Chief Bucky Goble presented Anderson with a specially engraved, gold-chased axe in recognition of his selfless service over the years.
