Memorial Satilla Health recently marked the conclusion of Donate Life Month with a tree planting and flag raising ceremony, honoring the life-changing impact of organ, eye and tissue donations.
The event brought together hospital staff and community partners to reflect on the importance of donation and the lives it transforms. Attendees heard remarks from longtime critical care nurse Pam Jones and LifeLink of Georgia Hospital Development Manager Michelle Burkett, followed by a moment of silence led by Hospital Chaplain Steve Boatright to honor those who gave the ultimate gift.
This year’s theme, “Leave a Legacy,” highlights how one decision can impact generations. The tree planting served as a symbolic reminder of that legacy, representing life, growth and the enduring impact donors have on recipients and their families.
“Events like this remind us of the profound impact organ donation has. Not just in saving lives, but in creating a legacy that continues for generations,” said CEO Damon Barrett. “We are proud to honor donors and their families, and to support efforts that bring hope and healing to so many.”
In 2025, Memorial Satilla Health facilitated three organ donor cases, resulting in seven life-saving transplants and eight tissue donors. Nationwide, more than 100,000 individuals are currently waiting for a transplant, including over 3,000 in Georgia. One donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of many more through tissue donation.
In addition to the ceremony, hospital team members hosted a cafeteria event to raise awareness, offering educational materials, giveaways and a drawing for live trees to encourage organ donor registration.
