The Pierce County Recreation Administration Offices will return to its old location after renovations have been completed.
Recreation Director Maureen Brown and Interim County Manager Thomas Sauls made the announcement at the July 7 recreation board meeting.
Brown said all offices have been relocated back to the original building from the modular building the department has been using over the last three years.
Sauls said some cameras remain to be moved, but he expects that to be completed shortly. The county will then end its lease for the modular buildings and the modular buildings will then be removed. The county is currently paying about $3,000 per month for modular buidling.
The original recreation building was closed in the summer of 2023 after a building inspection found serious issues with the facility.
The inspection three years ago found termite damage and numerous other deficiencies including the fact the facilities were not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), had significant water damage, mold, roofing and electrical issues and the air conditioning system was past its life expectancy.
Sauls said no evidence of termites was found in a follow-up inspection and the water damage, mold, roofing and electrical issues have been addressed.
The building is two-story, so there are some limits to ADA compliance.
