Rhodenberry
Gloria Jean Sweat Rhodenberry, 77, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday evening, July 19, 2026, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born March 10, 1949, in Waycross, she was a daughter of the late Simon Peter and Corrie Bell Douglas Sweat. She lived in multiple towns due to her husband’s career and moved back to Pierce County in 1990. She was a longtime beautician and was the owner of Gloria’s Cottage in Blackshear, as well as working in various other salons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tasha Rhodenberry Kessler and two brothers, Alex Sweat and Shelby Sweat.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Johnny Wayne Rhodenberry Sr., Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Shae and Scott Stipe, Patterson; son and daughterin- law, Johnny Wayne and Amber Rhodenberry, Jacksonville; grandchildren, Ian Kessler, Sterling Stipe, Seth Stipe, Lenore Rhodenberry and Johnny Rhodenberry; sister, Angie (Andy) Sweat, Brunswick, a brother, Frank (Linda) Sweat, Brunswick; a sister-inlaw, Jewelene Sweat, Waycross and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A time of visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Hart Funeral Home.
A private burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross.
