Cyclist dies of injuries from crash with pickup

A man died last week from injuries suffered when the motorcycle he was riding on Georgia 520 (Brunswick Highway) in Waycross collided with a pickup truck, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The wreck occurred about 11:17 a.m. Monday, July 13 at the intersection of Hatcher Point Road and Georgia 520.

The motorcyclist was transported to Memorial Satilla Health by Ware County EMS for his injuries and later lift-flighted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., where he died, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation by the GSP’s Special Collision Reconstruction Team. A final report of the accident was still pending at presstime, Monday, July 20.

According to the preliminary accident report, the motorcyclist was traveling west on Georgia 520 on a 1998 Honda motorcycle when he collided with a Chevrolet Silverado truck. The pickup was traveling east on Georgia 520, and made a left hand turn at its intersection with Hatcher Point Road.

The front of the motorcycle struck the right front of the pickup, the report said. No other injuries were reported.

Troopers Dallas Harper and Chase Middleton along with Cpl. Max Webb responded to the 911 call of a two-vehicle accident with injuries, and initially investigated the crash.
