Units expected for occupancy late next month
The Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce gathered last week on Brunel Street to officially cut the ribbon on a new housing development: the Windsor Waycross Project.
The project is under the development of Cairo-based Ethan Jackson Management, and has been in planning since the property’s acquisition in 2021.
Jeremiah Horne, one of the project’s co-owners welcomed the Chamber members and attendees, and gave a brief recap of the development history.
“I was one of the ones that came over a few years ago several times to get the project rezoned and approved,” he recalled. after the dedication Tuesday, July 14. “Our original concept of this property did not pass, so we sort of reconceived this project to be this sort of historic-looking thing, which is something that I’ve always wanted to do, and then it hit me that this would be the absolute perfect place to do it.”
The Windsor consists of six historic, Victorian-style houses, divided into single-bed, single bath rental apartments.
Construction of a multi-unit complex is a first for the city in more than a decade.
The homes were designed by Atlanta-based architect William Baker, known for impressive designs both domestically and abroad.
“He’s an investor of ours,” Horne said, “not on this project, but on some others, and he just offered to help us out with this one day.
“What we’re hoping is that this project will be a model of infill development that other communities around the state can look to.”
Construction began in March, and the first building is expected to be completed and ready to receive renters by the end of next month. Construction on the while complex is expected to be completed by November.
Once complete, the complex will offer 72 rental units. Apartments are currently available for advance leasing.
“The Chamber of Commerce is just really excited for new housing opportunities for people who live and work here,” said Chamber president Suzanna Woodall. “We’re really excited, these apartments are beautiful. I think they did a very good job with it, and a very quick turnaround.”
Added Horne: “We’ve been very grateful for the support of the community. This is sort of a show pony project for us. It’s the first of its kind for us, and we hope it’ll be one other communities look to as a model of infill development.”
