WAYCROSS — Maybelle Sweat Mixon Burnett, 86, of Waycross died Sunday morning, July 19, 2026, at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Burnett was born in Nashville, Ga., to the late Loren Sweat and Comey Renee Trowell Sweat and made Ware County her home for most of her life. She worked for Waycross Sportswear and then went on to be one of the first women to be an EMT in Ware County. Mrs. Burnett was a member of Zenith Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Reavis “Duke” Mixon; a son, Travis Mixon; a son-in-law, Donnie Merritt; a granddaughter, Danielle Burnett Marinello; siblings, Rev. Harley Sweat, Matilda Burney, Stella Mae Cook, Viola Corbitt, Annie Mae White, Evelyn Mobley and the Rev. A.L. Sweat.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by her husband, John Burnett of Ocean Springs, Miss.; three children, Brenda Burnett husband Charles of Gautier, Miss., Sharon Merritt of Waycross, and Dennis “Buggs” Mixon of Manor; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

held July 21 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Camp Branch Providence Cemetery.
