Ware County offers free refuse dropoff Ware County will open a free refuse center the third Saturday of both August and September for county residents to deposit household items.
The area behind the Ware County Public Works building, 3699 Harris Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., August 15 and September 19 to dropoff.
This is a collection point for residential items only for those who live in the county.
Acceptable articles are brown/white goods including furniture, washing machines, refrigerators, dryers, stoves, microwaves, TVs, and other household refuse.
No construction materials/ debris, batteries, tires, antifreeze, paints or solvents or business/commercial dumping is permitted. For questions and clarifications on permitted items, call the Public Works Department at (912) 490-4404.
Myles Honor Day scheduled Aug. 1 The 22nd annual Walter A. Sr. and Earnestine Lewis Myles Honor Day will be at noon Saturday, August 1 at the City of Pearson Sports Complex and Civic Center, 786 Austin Avenue E.
A scholarship fund in memory of Walter and Earnestine Myles has been established. During the annual program, a number of scholarships are awarded to deserving students to help them further their education. Scholarship recipients and other honorees will be recognized at the event.
The Myles were educators in a host of local counties. Scholarship donations are accepted with checks payable to the W.A. and Earnestine Myles Scholarship Fund. For information or to donate, call (912) 493-0366.
MSH has classes for child birth Memorial Satilla Health has scheduled bi-monthly maternity classes and monthly tours of its Birthing Center.
Tours and classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the MSH Birthing Center Conference Room, 1900 Tebeau Street. Those interested can register at memorialsatillahealth.co m/calendar.
Classes will be held September 21 and November 16. Birthing Center Tours remaining are August 9, September 6, October 12, November 10 and December 11.
Class topics will include breastfeeding, Cesarean sections (C-sections), diet and exercise, preparing for labor and delivery, relaxation techniques and vaginal deliveries.
Food preservation classes offered The University of Georgia Extension Office in Ware County will offer a series of food preservation classes monthly through December.
Classes will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesdays, at the Ware County Public Library, 401 Lee Avenue. Classes are $25 each and spots are limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

SGRC seeks input on workforce plan The local Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) 2026-27 Regional Plan Update for the Southern Georgia Workforce Development Area No. 18/Region No. 11 is available for review and public comment through July 31.
