Dr. Walker Todd was sworn in as Brantley County School System’s superintendent during Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
The July 13 swearing in of Dr. Todd was done by BOE Attorney Adam Ferrell in front of family and friends.
The former Brantley County High School principal officially took office Wednesday, July 1 following the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Kim Morgan.
In his Superintendent’s update, Dr. Todd spoke of the upcoming dates and events in the school system, including upcoming open house (July 30) and the first day of school.
Todd then allowed Facilities Director LeVance Gay to give the board an update on the construction and renovation projects that are currently ongoing at the high school.
According to Gay, the project has used 80 percent of the allotted budget, while the number of weather days has not changed. Demolition of the old band room, front locker rooms and a classroom have been completed. “There are still a few items that need to be done,” Gay said.
One of those items is the installation of 8-foot x 5foot video boards over each scoreboard. Work on the gym facade and wrestling room renovations are also still ongoing, as is paving and parking additions.
Board Chairman Mike Kersey acknowledged Gay, stating that, “We appreciate the job you do, especially on this project.”
Following Gay’s update, the board gave special recognition to retiring Assistant Superintendent Dr. Angela Haney. She was presented a plaque and gifts, while a video tribute created by her co-workers played.
Following these presentations, the meeting agenda was approved, and the minutes were accepted.
Next, the board financials were discussed. The SPLOST for the month was $182,635.08, while the car tag funds was $102,123.74, for a total of $284,758.82.
After the financials, the evening’s action items were voted on; all were approved. These action items included: annual governance team documents; Infinite Campus implementation; fiscal year 2027 renewal of Wayground software in the amount of $7,950; FY27 Unison Memorandum of Understanding (MOU); FY27 fundraisers; FY27 overnight field trips; FY27 handbooks; FY27 parent mentor contract; and a bid on small dining ware from Mobile Fixture, for $11,704.65.
After the action items were approved, the board entered into an executive session, with no action taken upon return to regular session.
The next agenda item was personnel matters. The board voted to accept the presented resignations, as well as the presented hires, addendums and community coaches. They were as follows: Resignations:
