WAYCROSS — Mr. Johnny Lee Jones, Sr., 70, passed away Saturday night, July 11, 2026, at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., following a brief illness.
Born May 22, 1956, in Waycross, Jones was the son of the late Culver Jones and Alice Elizabeth Dixon Rushing. He graduated from Waycross High School in 1974 and was a faithful member of Kettle Creek Church.
Jones retired from Ware Paint and Drywall, where he served as warehouse manager. He also dedicated his time as a volunteer with the Waycross Police Department Auxiliary. Jones was an active member of the Ware County Jaycees and the Waycross Exchange Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and, above all, spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Jones was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Bill Rushing; and his brother, Ronald B. Jones.
Jones is survived by his three sons, Johnny Lee Jones, Jr. (Cheyanna) of Waycross, Justin Clifford Jones of Milan, Ga., and Joseph “McKie” Jones of Waycross; eight grandchildren, Lacy Jones, Kaylin Smith, Lainie Jones, Alec Jones, Parker Jones, Oly Jones, Koledyn Jones,and Dalton Monfils; three great grandchildren, Lincoln Smith, Amelia Smith and Everleigh Jones; and a special nephew, Ronnie Jones.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 16 at Kettle Creek Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 15) at Music Funeral Home.
