Members of the Waycross Convention and Visitors Bureau board met at City Hall Thursday morning, July 9, for their monthly meeting.
After briefly discussing financials, those in attendance began discussing their recent activities and updates.
The Downtown Waycross Development Authority is currently waiting on permits for a rehabilitation project.
The Exchange Club of Waycross representative spoke about the organization’s Field of Honor ceremony held Saturday, July 4, while also reminding those in attendance of this year’s upcoming fair.
The Okefenokee Heritage Center member briefly spoke about their recent vendor event held July 3, and informed the board about their current work with artist Gregory Newsom. They also reminded members of their summer art camp, and “Elvis Returns” fundraising event September 26.
The board briefly spoke about the potential designation of the Okefenokee Swamp as a World Heritage Site. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s meeting this month in South Korea will determine if the swamp will be added to the list.
Southern Forest World’s member spoke about the recent repainting of the organization’s train, before reminding of upcoming events, including Stuckie’s Summer Camp, a “birthday party” for Smokey the Bear, an October car and truck show, and the Miss Southern Forest World pageant.
The Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce reminded attendees about the opening of the Southern Roost location in Waycross, as well as this month’s “Rise ‘n’ Shine” event, hosted by Aha! Photography at the Waycross train depot community room, 315 Plant Avenue.
A member from the Waycross-Ware County Development Authority gave attendees a reminder about the community housing symposium. That July 30 forum has been moved from the C.C. Mc-Cray City Auditorium to Coastal Pines Technical College’s Miller Hall.
After the updates, the only item of new business to handle was the election of Eunice Dixon as fiscal office vice chair.
