Waycross natives Laverne and Wesley Corbitt, both 78, will celebrate their 60th Anniversary Friday, July 24. The couple was married in Waycross at the home of Mrs. Corbitt’s parents on Nicholls Street. Mrs. Corbitt is the former Laverne Gray. Both are graduates of Waycross High School. Mr. Corbitt is a retired member of the U.S. Army who rose to the rank of Sergeant Major and did overseas tours of duty in both Korea (twice) and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, Mr. Corbitt worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections. Mrs. Corbitt is retired from the Ware County Board of Education where she was a bus driver and later a driver trainer. The couple had two daughters, both of whom are deceased. They have two grandchildren, Kali Goble (Hampton) and Charles Woodard, all of Blackshear.
