The Hoboken City Council discussed/voted on the following agenda items during the Tuesday, July 7 monthly meeting.
• Comprehensive Plan: The council unanimously approved to adopt the 5-year Comprehensive Plan for 2027-31.
•Audit report: Mayor Joey Crews informed councilmembers the item needed to be tabled. The mayor said the audit report had not been returned by the state.
• Resolution for Southeastern Bank signatures: Mayor Crews received for a motion and unanimous approval to adopt the resolution requiring two signatures for checks.
The combination of signatures includes the mayor, City Clerk Brianna Matanzi or Mayor Pro-tem James Ray.
• Ordinance for Water Rate
increase: The mayor introduced an ordinance with its first reading to raise the water rates in the City of Hoboken.
• Hoboken Police Department: Police Chief Sammy Hendrix delivered the June monthly report of the Hoboken Police Department.
Officers with the HPD made 106 traffic stops and issued 71 citations and gave 35 verbal warnings. They answered 44 public calls and made five arrests.
Officers made 10 security checks, responded to three Suspicious Person/ Vehicle calls, assisted two motorist, 16 miscellaneous calls, nine tags, one residential/commercial alarm, one medical alarm, responded to one mutual aid call and worked one accident.
The department also conducted a two-hour license safety checkpoint with four tickets issued.
Chief Hendrix also reported Sgt. Jonathan Chancey was involved in a two-vehicle accident Monday (July 6) morning en route for his shift at South Georgia State College. He suffered eight broken ribs and had some internal bleeding.
“He was discharged today (Tuesday, June 7),” said the chief. “He’s going to be banged up pretty sore for probably a couple weeks.”
• Street/Water Departments: Mayor Crews said a request to remove the speed bumps in front of Wester Lee’s house near the Hoboken Community Center had been received.
A motion was made for the removal of the nearly destroyed speed bumps with a unanimous approval.
• Mobile Home Park: The mayor suggested tabling the possible sale of the Mobile Home Park until all six council members were present. In attendance were Timothy King, Greg Buie, Kenny Jordan and Amy Lee. Not in attendance were James Ray and Skeeter Stone.
