NAHUNTA — The Nahunta City Council approved the 2026 Comprehensive Plan and Resolution joining the Brantley County Commission and Hoboken City Council with passages.
Nahunta made its approval during the Monday, July 6 monthly meeting. The City of Hoboken passed the resolution Tuesday, July 7 during its monthly meeting with the County Commission doing likewise Thursday, July 9.
The 2026 Comprehensive Plan, which will run from 2027-31, was updated with the council members of both cities and the commission. This also included projects which were previously tabled.
Nahunta City Clerk Angie Wirth gave some detail into some of those projects.
“The ongoing projects are upgrades to the water and sewer, the repaving of the streets and the new sewer plant,” Wirth said.
Other projects included affordable housing on timber property which is for sale, walking trails and the new City Hall. Upgrades to the lift stations and keeping the water towers and well houses maintained and upgraded were also mentioned.
The council subsequently approved the 2026 Comprehensive Plan and Resolution.
The council heard the first readings of ordinances governing Zoning Setback (26-07-001) and Travel Trailer Length of Stay (26-07-002).
Councilmembers approved the purchase of a 2020 Ford 550 lift truck and the surplus of a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500.
Councilman Andrew Altman discussed what new features will come with this truck.
“The Ford will have a boom on it so the vehicle can lift pumps out of lift stations safely,” said Altman.
The council approved a 10-year contract with Axon body cameras for the Nahunta Police Department. This will also include a dash camera for their patrol trucks as well as taser devices.
This agreement will help keep the equipment running for the next 10 years. The dash cameras will be updated every five years.
Councilmembers also approved to have rifles for the Nahunta Police Department. This will be in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Management System out of Valdosta. These are AR SWAT-type rifles.
A certification training course will take place for all officers before they can be of official use.
Police Chief Brad Todd gave the Nahunta Police Department’s monthly report for the month of June.
There were 563 E911 calls; 265 traffic stops; 53 citations issued; 212 warnings issued; six incident reports filed and three accident reports filed.
Chief Todd also discussed eight arrests in the month of June with the most recent two occurring on the Monday afternoon (July 6).
Jeremy Ryan gave the Public Works Report. Ryan reported there were 323 work orders in the month of June.
He also stated his team was also hard at work cutting grass, spraying for bugs and treating wastewater. Ryan also said his team helped the City of Hoboken with a water leak.
