Pierce County experienced its first heat wave of the season last week with sweltering tem peratures accompanied by high humidity and heat indices near 110 degrees. The mercury soared to 102 degrees Saturday afternoon on the Eagle Storage thermometer in Patterson. A cold front moved through the area Sunday bringing with it relief from the heat.
