New recreation complex: John Stover of Carter and Sloope Architects of Macon presented revised plans for the proposed new recreation complex on County Farm Road and the renovations at the Ware Street Park. (See related story.)
Update on Tiger Field project: Bids on the Tiger Field project have been re-bid for a third time and are slated to be opened July 27. The work will include field and lighting improvements, re-paving of the track and additional parking at the facility. The county received a $343,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Matching Grant for the work. Additional improvements will put the final price tag at just over $1 million.
Director’s report: Recreation Director Maureen Brown congratulated the 10U girls machine pitch softball team and the 8U boys coach pitch baseball teams for winning district championshipsin their sports. The girls finished as runners-up at state and teh boys finished fourth at state. The 8U machine pitch boys, 8U machine pitch girls, the 10U machine pitch boys and 14U live pitch girls teams all participated in the district tournament. Brown also reported on the Pierce County Recreation Department hosting the boys 8U machine and coach pitch district baseball tournament. The department received $12,786 in gate, concession, district fees and photography commissions on the tournament. The director reported the department received over $9,000 in revenues after the expenses were paid. She thanked Ace Hardware and Bennett, Bennett and Johnson Insurance for sponsoring goody bags for tournament coaches.
Brown gave an update on summer camps including volleyball, soccer, basketball and football. She said volleyball camp was held earlier in the summer and was a success. Soccer camp is planned for July 20-24 at Tiger Field and basketball camp is planned for July 27-30 at the Pierce County Gym. Brown also announced Adrian Peterson, former Georgia Southern University and NFL football player, will conduct football camp July 21 at Tiger Field.

Brown also announced registration deadline for fall sports will be in August. Fall sports programming at the department will include football, volleyball, soccer, cheerleading and flag football. Brown and Interim County Manager Thomas Sauls also announced the recreation department offices will be moving back into the old office complex on Ware Street.
Next meeting: The next monthly meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (SEGARAC) on College Avenue.
