WAYCROSS — Mrs. Jacquelyn Stevens Thomas, 92, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Brantley County to the late Nelson A. Stevens, Sr. and Clara Strickland Stevens. Throughout her life, she worked as a seamstress in several sewing factories throughout the area before later serving as a bookkeeper with Spivey and Co.
Mrs. Thomas was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where she was active with the Adult Sunday School Class, Sewing Sisters, and the Joy Group. She was well known for her love of baking cakes for family, friends, and anyone in need of a special treat.
Her generous heart, servant's spirit, and love for others will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, William Clyde Thomas; a daughter, Sandra T. Cochran; two sisters, Norma Jean Ivey and Annelle Waters; and six brothers, N.A. Stevens, Jr., Donald Stevens, Larry Stevens, Wayne Stevens, Winton Stevens, and J.L. Stevens.
She is survived by three children, Robert Thomas (Anita), Brenda T. Herrin (the late Donnie), and David Thomas all of Brantley County; a son-inlaw, Benjamin Cochran of Cartersville; five grandchildren, Brian Herrin (Allison), Marc Herrin (Amy), Liza Taylor (Buck), R.J. Thomas (Anthony) and Walt Cochran; 10 great grandchildren, Caroline Oliver (Bennett), Natalie Herrin, Jenna Herrin, Jones Herrin, Katharina Cochran, Rhett Taylor, Darcy Taylor, Hazel Herrin, McCoy Taylor and Macie Herrin; two sisters, Louise Spivey of Waycross and Gail Rhodes (Dusty) of Waycross; a sister- in-law, Margaret Stevens of Hoboken; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Monday, July 6, 2026 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Burial followed in Thomas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in her honor to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501.
