WAYCROSS – Four Family Medicine Residency Program graduates were recognized recently during a ceremony at The Banter in Blackshear.

Dr. Xiang ‘Joseph’ You, Dr. Mary Catherine Stewart, Dr. Madhavi Madupuri and Dr. Kimberly Mathurin completed two of their three years of family medicine residency training in the Waycross community through Mercer University School of Medicine.

“These physicians represent the future of healthcare in our community and beyond,” said Damon Barrett, chief executive officer of Memorial Satilla Health. “We are proud to have been part of their training and grateful for the care, compassion and commitment they brought to pa-tients and families at the hospital. Their work reflects our ongoing focus to improve access to high-quality, patient-centered care close to home.” Dr. Mathurin and Dr. Stewart will continue caring for patients in South Georgia, joining family medicine practices in Blackshear and Nahunta. Dr. You will return to the Atlanta area for private practice, and Dr. Madupuri plans to practice hospital medicine in Oklahoma.

Memorial Satilla Health was designated as a teaching hospital in 1998, when the state recognized the hospital as a regional leader in providing quality healthcare. Waycross remains one of the smallest Georgia communities selected for a family medicine residency program.

Residents receive inpatient training from physicians at Memorial Satilla Health and from other community physicians. The program has maintained accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education since its first class graduated in June 2000.
