Area residents got a chance to celebrate this year’s patriotic semiquincentennial celebrations honoring 250 years of these United States.
Emmanuel Baptist Church of Blackshear put on a colorful light show Sunday evening, that was visible all over town. The church hosted the event for the community.
There was a festive atmosphere in the air as children enjoyed water slides and bounce houses in the run up to sundown. Once full dark arrived, the show began and at least one spectator said it was “just as good or better than the one((s) in neighboring towns).”
The fireworks were visible to viewers in many other parts of town with spectators set up in various parking lots and yards throughout the heart of the city.
Smoke from multiple explosions was mostly carried off by a light wind, though attendees watching from the field adjacent to Emmanuel were briefly fogbound by large clouds at least twice. Blackshear Fire Department Chief Bucky Goble, local firefighters and first responders manned a fire engine to help keep everyone safe.
