An iconic, local child care center will close its doors later this month.
Blackshear Presbyterian Child Care Center on Main Street will permanently close Friday, July 24.
Pam Hitchner, director of the center, made the announcement last week.
Hitchner, in cooperation with the Blackshear Presbyterian Church, opened the child care center in August, 1998.
“It is with a sad heart that I announce my retirement and the closing of the center,” Hitchner said.
The director said God led her to child care as her calling in 1996 and that led to the opening of the child care center.
Hitchner said she has enjoyed taking care of the babies of the community for almost 30 years.
“I want to thank the many mentors, family and friends that helped me realize my purpose and God’s will in my life. To the dedicated staff, I can’t express my gratitude enough for the work you have done for the many, many children we have cared for. Many thanks and much love to all the parents who have allowed me to care for their children and to all the children that have run and played in these halls, I wish you all the joy and success you deserve.”
