Memorial Satilla recently recognized four Family Medicine Residency Program graduates during a ceremony at The Banter in Blackshear.

Dr. Xiang ‘Joseph’ You, Dr. Mary Catherine Stewart, Dr. Madhavi Madupuri and Dr. Kimberly Mathurin completed two of their three years of family medicine residency training in the Waycross community through Mercer University School of Medicine.

Dr. Mathurin and Dr. Stewart will continue caring for patients in South Georgia, joining family medicine practices in Blackshear and Nahunta. Dr. You will return to the Atlanta area for private practice, and Dr. Madupuri plans to practice hospital medicine in Oklahoma.

“These physicians represent the future of healthcare in our community and beyond,” said Damon Barrett, chief executive officer of Memorial Satilla Health. “We are proud to have been part of their training and grateful for the care, compassion and commitment they brought to patients and families at the hospital. Their work reflects our ongoing focus to improve access to highquality, patient-centered care close to home.”

Memorial Satilla Health was designated as a teaching hospital in 1998, when the state recognized the hospital as a regional leader in providing quality healthcare. Waycross remains one of the smallest Georgia communities selected for a family medicine residency program.

Residents receive inpatient training from physicians at Memorial Satilla Health and from other community physicians. The program has maintained accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education since its first class graduated in June 2000.
