Local Impact: Ware County FFA Leading the Way
Bringing the focus back home, Hickox highlighted the work of the Ware County FFA chapter, which he said, “plays a crucial role in shaping the future of agriculture.” Students participate in SAE projects, livestock and mechanics competitions, agricultural research and career development events.
They also gain skills in animal science, horticulture, wildlife, forestry, and ag mechanics.
“Our students are not only preparing for careers in agriculture, but are also contributing to our local community through projects that promote sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community outreach,” he said.
Hickox also praised the Georgia Young Farmers Association for providing continuing education to adults in areas such as marketing, egg candling, pesticide credits, livestock selection and raised-bed gardening.
Georgia, he noted, is the only state in the nation offering agriculture education from elementary school through adulthood — a point of pride for Ware County, which employs ag teachers at every level from elementary through high school, plus collegiate programs at Coastal Pines and South Georgia State College.
A Call to Support the Next Generation
Hickox closed with a reminder that agriculture education is ultimately about preparing leaders.
“It’s about preparing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers who will ensure the sustainability of our industry and economy,” he said.
He encouraged community members to stay engaged and support local programs, adding, “Together we can help cultivate a stronger future for Georgia and beyond.”
