Ware County Comm issioners discussed/voted on the following agenda items during the Monday, June work session, public hearing and regular meeting.
Commissioners approved every item before them. All votes were unanimous.
Commissioners present were Chairman Elmer Thrift, Leonard Burse, Barry Cox and Timmy Lucas. Commissioner Jon Tindall was absent. Staff present were County Manager James Shubert, Assistant County Attorney Jennifer Herzog and County Clerk Melinda Brooks.
• Quitclaim Deed for Roscoe Mixon Road: The board approved authorizing the chairman to sign a quitclaim deed transferring the abandoned segment of Roscoe Mixon Road to Waresboro Baptist Church.
The original segment of Roscoe Mixon Road has been closed and abandoned following the relocation project.
• Road Restriping contract: A revised bid from NPR South, LLC for the FY 2025 Safety Action Plan restriping project came in at $409,900.93, only $689.93 above the allocated budget after adjustments.
Commissioners approved the contract.
• FY 2026 LMIG resurfacing: Commissioners accepted the low bid of $459,455.54 from East Coast Asphalt, LLC for resurfacing portions of East Waring Street, Tara Road and 8 Mile Post Road/Gibbs Street.
• Senior Center meals contract: The annual agreement with the Southern Georgia Regional Commission to provide meals for local seniors was approved without changes.
• Airport window tint replacement: The board approved a $7,284 contract with Crystal’s Tint Shop, LLC to replace damaged tint at the airport terminal. The summary notes the current tint is “torn, peeling, and missing,” affecting both appearance and visibility.
• EMA equipment purchases: Two emergency management purchases were approved, both funded by revenue received from Seminole County for hurricane-response tower usage:
• Polaris Ranger 1000 Crew , $17,146.63
• 40-foot gooseneck trailer,$20,400.00 from Harvey Equipment Co.
• Planning Commission appointments: The board approved appointments to two seats on the Waycross–Ware County Planning Commission:
• Post 3: Kristy King, Foreman, reappointed
• Post 6: Bill Bryson appointed as the seat rotates to a county appointment.
• Bulk item disposal site: Commissioners approved moving forward with a bulk item disposal location behind Public Works, operating for a three-month trial period from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the third Saturday in July.
The Commission will review in October.
• Land Bank Authority appointment: The board postponed filling the unexpired term of William Simmons on the Waycross– Ware County Land Bank Authority, which runs through December 31, 2028.
• Public Hearing — Rezoning Request for 1816 Ketterer Street: Commissioners held a public hearing on a rezoning request for 1816 Ketterer Street, parcel 055D01 065. Applicant Gilberto Marquez sought to rezone the property from R-75 MH (Residential Manufactured Homes) to MU (Mixed Use) for “food storage and food prep for a food truck.” The Planning Commission had previously voted unanimously to deny a request for C-2 zoning, but approved MU zoning instead. After hearing public comments, commissioners voted unanimously to approve the rezoning to MU during the regular meeting.
