The Exchange Club of Waycross recently partnered with the Ware County Board of Education to sponsor the America 250 Essay Contest, inviting students across the county to reflect on the meaning of United States citizenship as our nation approaches its 250th anniversary.
The winners were Pre-K and Kindergarten division — Abundio Montiel; 1st-2nd grade division — Mariah Kenney; 3rd-5th grade division — Adalyn Mercer; 6th-8th grade division — Samuel Smith; and 9th-12th grade — Jaden Muchison.
Students from every Ware County school were encouraged to participate by writing an essay answering the question: “What does being a U.S. citizen mean to you?”
Their responses highlighted themes of civic responsibility, patriotism, community involvement, and the shared values that strengthen our nation.
A panel of reviewers selected one winner from each grade-level division. The contest showcased the creativity, character and insight of local students while fostering a deeper appreciation for the responsibilities and privi-leges of citizenship.
The club congratulates all participants and extends special recognition to the winners. Their essays demonstrated an impressive understanding of what it means to contribute to a stronger community and nation.
