Gators’ Sweat, Suess, Walker named to all-state teams

Region 1 has 11 players selected to all-state squads by coaches

Ware County had three senior players selected to the 2026 Class 4A All-State team by coaches representing all eight regions.

Slade Sweat and Seth Suess were First Team selections with Walker Hudson earning Third Team honors.

The Gators’ trio were part of 11 selections from Region 1-AAAA. In total, 18 players were named First Team, 18 were Second Team and 17 were Third Team.

“After the committee met, you can definitely say there were some great baseball players in AAAA in the state of Georgia,” said Ware County head coach Jamie Ammons, who served as the committee chairman. “These players had fantastic years and it was my pleasure to head this committee of coaches to ensure that we honored the best players in the state of Georgia.”

Ammons was joined on the committee by Jones County’s Noble Coley (Region 2), Starr’s Mill’s Brent Moseley (Region 3), Maynard Jackson’s Desmond Stegal (Region 4), Marist’s Mike Strickland (Region 5), Blessed Trinity’s Jamie Wagner (Region 6), Cartersville’s Kyle Tucker (Region 7) and North Oconee’s Eric Bounds (Region 8).

Sweat, who appeared in all 35 Ware County games, was named to the squad as a utility player. He was second in batting average finishing at .435. He led the team in OPS at 1.245 while slugging a team-best .757.

Sweat blasted a teamhigh 10 homers including four in a game vs. Coffee. He drove in a team-leading 43 runs. Sweat led the team with 42 runs scored.

He tied for second in doubles with seven and was second on the team with 22 stolen bases (25 attempts).

Suess made the First Team as a pitcher. The right-hander went 8-3 leading the team in victories. He appeared in 12 games including a staffleading 11 game starts.

Suess finished the year with a 4.15 ERA over a staff-high 60.2 innings pitched. He allowed 67 hits, fanned 55, walked 12 and hit six batters. Suess was charged with 36 earned runs of the 38 runs allowed.

Hudson was named as Third Team catcher. Over the course of 38 games, he batted .338 with two homers and 20 RBI. Hudson banged our four doubles and a team-leading five triples.

He scored 18 runs and was a perfect 17-for-17 in stolen base attempts tying for third on the team.

Benedictine led the region with six selections. Infielder Omari Burse was the lone First Team selection for the Cadets.

Infielders Kai Hernandez- Gambill and Noah Harris, outfielder Landen Harris and pitcher Mason O’Neil were Second Team selections. Catcher Mason Diamond was tabbed Third Team.

Perry’s Jackson Thompson received Second Team honors as a utility player. Wayne County’s Dekan Yeomans was a Third Team selection as an infielder.
