HOBOKEN – Edith Batten Smith, 78 of Hoboken, passed away Thursday evening, June 18, 2026 at Satilla Hospice House in Waycross after an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith’s parents were John Henry Batten and Ona Mae Jacobs Batten. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Hugh Smith; and five siblings, Avant King, Pearl King, Alvie Chesser, Patsy Lee (husband Billy Lee), and Janice O’Neal (Husband Jack O’Neal).

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed watching stories, feeding babies, watching humming birds, eating M & Ms and Hershey Kisses, and staying connected to everyone through Facebook while being on her iPad.

Survivors include her two daughters and a sonin- law, Cindy Batten and Theresa and Tony Drury all of Hoboken; three grandchildren, Brock Drury (fiancé Emily Whaley) of Darien, Evan Drury see OBITS, Page 5 (Paige) of Waycross and Erica Bacon (Phillip) of Hoboken; three great grandchildren, Ellie Kate Drury, Fischer Dean Drury and Iris Irene Bacon; two sisters, Ruby Lee Waldron (Charles) and Faye O’Neal (Lancewell); nieces and nephews, Randy Lee (Peggy), Jabo Lee (Leigh Anne), Billy “Little Billy” Lee, Jr., Brian O’Neal (Brandy), Kiesha O’Neal (Tracy), Tony O’Neal, Chuck Waldron and Wendy Lee; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Monday afternoon, June 22, 2026 at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ray McMillan and Rev. Tommy Gill officiating.

Burial followed in Hoboken Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tracy Thomas, Chuck Waldron, Jabo Lee, Tony O’Neal, Brian O’Neal and Billy “Little Billy” Lee, Jr.

The family would like to give a special Thank You to Memorial Satilla Hospital’s ICU west and Hospice Satilla.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
