Twinette Dee King Pope

Twinette Dee King Pope

Twinette Dee King Pope, 64, of Kingsland, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Born in New Orleans, she was the daughter of the late Tilton Christopher King Sr. and the late Mildred Brown King, both of Blackshear. As part of a military family, she experienced several moves during her childhood before the family eventually settled in Columbus, where she graduated from Kendrick High School.
Following in the footsteps of her aunts, she attended Albany State University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in middle Grades education. She later received a master of education in middle grades from Columbus State University and an educational specialist degree in curriculum and instruction
from Nova Southeastern University.
Having moved to Camden County in 2007, she accepted Christ at First African Baptist Church in Kingsland. Her favorite scripture was Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Her life was indeed a prosperous one.
Teaching was truly her life’s work. She dedicated her career to educating middle school students in Harris and Camden Counties. Known as an effective, firm and loving educator, she earned the admiration, respect and affection of her students and colleagues alike. She retired from Camden County Schools in 2019 after 30+ years as a full-time educator, only to return on a part-time basis the next year.
She was also an accomplished cook who took pleasure in providing delicious meals for others and with her sisters operated a catering service—Mildred’s Pantry.
Twinette was a loyal and active member of the Brunswick Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was also a member of Camden County Chapter No. 191, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated.
An enthusiastic fan of the New Orleans Saints, her greatest devotion, however, was
always reserved for her family—especially her beloved husband and siblings.
She shared 31 loving years of marriage with her late husband, Tyrone Pope. She was a devoted and compassionate wife who cared for him faithfully until his passing.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, a beloved sister-in-law, Constance King and several cherished aunts and uncles.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted siblings: Jeannette King Myers (Harry), LaNancy King Moody (Richey) and Tilton C. King Jr., who lovingly served as her primary caregiver during her illness; her step-children, Laytoya Johnson (Thomas) and Tyrone Maurice Pope; nieces and nephews for whom she proudly
served as a “professional aunt”: LaShanta, Cortez, LaMiya, Christopher (Megan), A’Laila, J’Shaun, and M’kyi; several aunts and an uncle, as well as a host of cousins, sorority sisters and dear friends whose lives were blessed by her presence.
Twinette’s legacy of love, faith, education, service and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, from the Harbor Worship Center in Kingsland.
Condolences may be expressed at allisonmemorialchapelandfuneralhome.com.
Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys is entrusted with arrangements.
