Traffic on the Satilla River Bridge connecting Pierce and Ware counties was halted late Friday morning, June 12, when a load of cement spilled on the completed portion of the four-lane roadway, authorities said. According to the Ware County Sheriff’s Office, the chute on a passing cement truck was accidentally engaged. It took more than two hours to clear the cement with assistance from the bridge work crew before traffic could resume in both directions. WCSO deputies directed traffic on the Ware side of the bridge, while Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies did the same on their side of the span. The scene was cleared shortly after 2 p.m. Photo by ETHAN REDDISH
