Dorsey
WAYCROSS — It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Della Laverne Killgore Dorsey, who entered her eternal rest on Monday June 9, 2026, at the age of 90 where she most recently lived at Baptist Village J. Olan Jones Center.
Before going to Baptist Village, she lived in her dream home, a log cabin in Cairo, Ga.
Born on Nov ember 16, 1935, in Kent ucky, Mrs. Dorsey’s parents, Reuben and Velvie Killgore, preceded her in death as well as her sisters, Inez Ready, Colleen (Robert), Mildred Florence, and Ruby Ewing; and brothers, Travis Killgore (Mae) and Frank Killgore (Betty). She is outlived by her brother Roy Killgore (late Doris), her sister, Martha Perritti (late Frank), and sister-in-law, Betty.
She was a beloved wife to the late Robert Ennis Dorsey and a cherished mother to three children — Steven Lewis Charrette (deceased), Sandra Charrette (friend Lynn) of Cairo, Susan Lynn Dorsey Williams (Mark) of Waycross, Sherry Dorsey, who passed at birth and one stepson, Robert (Bobby) Greuber.
Mrs. Dorsey lived a life devoted to faith, family, and community. Her favorite thing to do in life was being a doting “Granny” to five grandchildren, Steve, Jr. (deceased at birth), Joshua Charrette (deceased), Justin Charrette (Courtney) of Tallahassee, Fla., David Williams (Hilary) of Alexandria, Va., and Emily Williams of Memphis, Tenn. She was most proud of her great grandchild, James Charrette of Tallahassee.
An unwavering faith in Christ guided Mrs. Dorsey through all seasons of her life, and she exemplified the love of God through her kindness, generosity, and service to others. She spent most of her youth and early child-rearing years in Orlando, Fla. She then resided in Winter Haven, Fla., where for many years she managed a local doctor’s practice, later beginning a successful business, Health Insurance Claims Services, Inc.
At her passing, Mrs. Dorsey was a member of First Baptist Church, Winter Haven. She was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce as well as several other civic and community organizations while living in Winter Haven.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. The family will gather at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. to greet those who may wish to convey their condolences in person.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity or organization of your choice in Mrs. Dorsey’s memory. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her faithfilled life and the promise of eternal life in Christ will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Her family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude for their genuine love and care to everyone at the J. Olan Jones Center at Baptist Village, especially the nursing and CNA staff. Mrs. Dorsey loved and appreciated everything all of you did to make her last days happy and comfortable.
Resting in the arms of the Lord, Della Laverne Killgore Dorsey — also lovingly known as “Granny” — will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for family, and her dedication to serving others. Her family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.
